.simp is back online!
So if you don't know already, .simp (simple instant messenger program) is a project of mine that I released back in April of 2008. If you're not already using .simp, download it now! http://simp.mwmaster.com. Anyway, .simp is powered by Openfire (an open source IM server platform) and I was still running openfire off of my test server to authenticate .simp users. Well the test server took a dump and since I am in college and 3 hours from the datacenter where my servers are.. there wasn't much I could do at the time. The server was down for about 2 weeks before I got the chance to get to my server. When I finally got the go, I found it was the power supply that died, so I snagged one and put it in and .simp was back online.
So I am taking a lesson from this and no longer procrastinating when it comes to backing things up or migrating stuff. Openfire (.simp authentication) now runs on my new server named sab3r and my new server is closer so if it goes down, hopefully it wont be another 2-week downtime..
..and be sure to check .simp out!
